“Better dead than Red” But Even Better “Red Dead Redemption”

At the weekend I had a cunning plan. A plan so cunning, you could say “it was as cunning as a fox  who’s just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University“. Now that’s cunning!

Before I tell my cunning plan, I need to set the scene, or at least explain the events leading up to “The Cunning Plan“.  It all starts on a Saturday morning, not any old Saturday morning but the start of a three day Bank Holiday weekend. It starts with a man with a stupidly long list of things he really needs to do, and no inclination to do any of them. Well I’d been putting off stuff for weeks/months/years. I am spod watch me idle!

So I really needed to make some headway into the growing pile that was the task-list. It was while contemplating this that “The Cunning Plan” was hatched.

You see it came to me as if whispered into my ear by the angel or devil that sits on my shoulder (I always get those two mixed up). I would get myself the game “Red Dead Redemption” that I had read so much about on different peoples Blog’s and which so far had good write-ups.  So I would go get myself this game and place it in a prominent position. And if I completed a load of tasks then I could treat myself to playing the game. I am Male, Watch me get bribed!

Plan formed, I quickly made a list of the most pressing tasks on my Whiteboard and headed out to the shops. The first shop I tried was sold out, The second did not even have it listed as a released game, The third shop turned out to be a cake shop, The fourth was a constitutional right, Luckily the fifth was more promising.  I just had one pitfall to pass.

I entered the shop to be confronted by a series of displays for the iPad, There was box’s of them all looking new and shiny. I know I’m waiting for the none mac tablets to be released but I am a geek, I love new technology. The draw of the shiny almost drew me in, but I rolled a 20 on my resist willpower, and was able to pass.  I made it to the game section to spot the “SOLD OUT” sign on the Xbox360 section of the game. Luckily they had one left in the PS3 section, so I was saved, the game bought, and I returned home.

So there I was, Task list on whiteboard, prize for completion in hand. What could go wrong?

Well, the thing is the game may not have worked, and needed replacing which would annoy me after completing my tasks. So what harm could there be in just throwing it into ps3 and checking its ok. I could just watch the intro and then turn it off when I was sure it worked. I could do that couldn’t I?

And that was the moment “The Cunning Plan” failed. and the weekend vanished. In my defence the game is great. Wide open landscapes to ride over, all the wildlife, random encounters, missions, fun. I don’t think I’ve done any of the plot elements of the game yet. I’ve just wandered the land killing & Skinning animals, shooting the rope on people being hanged, and generally killing people. Oh and I’m on my eighth or ninth horse.  I’ve met several people walking alone in the desert who’ve asked for help, only to pull me off my mount and ride off on it when I’ve gone to help. Which means I then have to shoot my horse dead so it falls on the horse thief while i then walk over and shoot them in the legs and arms, and leave them lying bleeding on the floor.

Oh. I guess I could just shoot the rider dead and leave the horse alive? Hummm never considered that.

I do recommend the game to anyone. Unless you really have other stuff you need to do first.

Diversion Deviants

I would like to give a mention of thanks to the Pranksters who made my Monday morning commute much easier than normal, while providing me with entertainment that’s kept me amused all day so far. Let me explain:-

As you may know from previous posts My current commute is a nightmare from roadworks and diversions. Well on my trip in this morning as I was driving along one of the diversions, I noticed that there was a “diversion” sign in a new place, and was now sending traffic off the route they had been using for the last few weeks, and down a different road. Now as I know the area, I ignored the diversion and continued on my way, on a now empty road as everyone else had followed the sign. And for that ease of trip i thank you whoever moved the sign.

Diversion Sign

I should point out why this has amused me so much all day.

The road all the cars, vans, trucks, wagons were being diverted along was a dead end. A dead end with no real space o turn a car around, let alone any of the bigger vehicles. In fact I’d be surprised due to narrowness of road if the trucks did not get jammed before they made it to the end, helping to trap everyone on the road. And all this on a Monday morning (which people tend to hate anyway). Once again, I raise my hat to whoever was behind this bit of pure genius!!

We here at Three Ninjas Salute You.

I Just had this online test emailed me with the simple comment of ” Thought this may appeal to your work place ;o)”

What it seems to infer is how hard it is to tell the difference between a cerial killer and in Computer Programmer. (Knowing some of the coders I know, I can understand this, especially after an all nighter, and the realisation there is only decaf left!)

Can you judge someone by looking at them?

BY LOOKING AT A PICTURE OF A PERSON, YOU HAVE TO DECIDE IF HE IS A COMPUTER GEEK OR A SERIAL KILLER. GO WITH YOUR GUT FEELING AND CLICK ON YOUR CHOICE.

THERE ARE 10 PHOTOS. YOUR SCORE WILL BE GIVEN AT THE END.

Programming Language Inventor or Serial Killer?

A few off us popped to the pub after work for a quick drink before heading home. One of our directors came with us and got a round in with the loose change he could find…

Then after left, it was decided to have another round, which involved everyone hunting for cash when the cook who we had got to open the pub up for us decided he didn’t like his bosses that much and gave us a free round ;0)

Which increased when one of the blokes there wife and kids turned up…

Then a round of crisps…

You have to love freebies…..

Well I battled the winds, the rain, the fallen trees, closed roads, and other dangers to make it to training last night.

Well, to leave the office early (Well tis hard to work in IT with no power) to get to ‘s to play “Age of Empires II”
then on to training. Where we did fun stuff which I can not mention on an open forum :0)

Alas being the highest rank there I was used as the Instructors demonstration partner (Forcing my mind to wake up fast to keep up with whats was going on)

anyway i digress…

After training I head back home, looking forward to a quick shower, coffee, some warm food and a chill out in front the TV. Only to get home to no electricity, in fact it’d been off so long even the stuff with battery backups had failed.. So Had to train, then have cold drink (which was not so bad as I found a stash of can’s) some biscuits (The only food I cound find that did not require cooking) then sitting about in candle light!  well that and the light from the laptop that I was using to watch a film!

Its actually very atmospheric watching a dark horror film in the dark with just the flickering light from candles…

Weekend Review

Nov20

Well I’ve not done a weekend review for a while, or any post really. So here goes, highlights from the weekend!
Friday
Went to see “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.” Now i am not really a fan of Sacha Baron Cohen, and in honesty i was only going along with the majority vote. But i’m glad i did, because i enjoyed myself, been a while since i saw a film where i laughed out loud in the cinema. But maybe it was the beer :0)

Saturday
Well as normal the morning was spent training, bit of plinking, bit of thuding, bit of coffeejutsu, normal stuff really. Till the slight heart palputations bit when after picking up the bits I had not seen from my current grade the instructor asks “you ok with your grade now?” so we say “yes, just got to practice and master it now” where he says “you have a week?” MEEP!!!! luckily it was a slight mistake and i have the month i thought i had…

And some quiet drinks in the local village with some old school friends. Who did in fact look Old, they looked much older than me, they must have had a hard life?

Sunday
Nice relaxing day, mainly due to it being too cold and wet to do anything, or go anywhere, and I felt the oncoming of a cold… Well that was the plan, which failed miserably, when at 5pm i spotted one dog sat miserably on the drive and the other one wandering about on the road, After getting the dog in from the road, I discovered the reason the other dog had not escaped as well was during his attempt he’d got a large bramble branch wrapped up in his hair, locking his two back legs together with his tail.. Which meant a fight to try and free him, then a search about for the hole in the hedge they were using to escape, and a repair job in the freezing cold rain! Bloody dogs..

Interesting club, reminds me of a cross between Edwards No 8 (Birmingham) and the kings (Wrexham). Was a good night, well they served a passable snakebite & black, and you got a free shot with every pint, the music was acceptable, the crowd varied, and lacking in the chav element (always a bonus)…

Ok, there was a downside to the night, a two mile hike back at 3:30am in the frost and ice, after leaving the warmth of the club… But there is a theory of the “pleasure/pain syndrome”

Update – without any actual updates

It occurs to me from looking at my last few postings that all I have posted recently is meme’s. So Its time I changed that and posted a actual real posting.. Wooooo feel the excitement….. or not..

Well I figure I’ve not been updating much with real posts is because nothing much has changed. I work doing the same kind of things day in day out, with just the odd bit of excitement like shameit.com. When not in work, I am normally training, which confuses me, since I train 4 nights a week, yet I would not describe myself as being dedicated to the arts i study.

The only exciting new thing currently happening in my life, is alas a secret, so I can not post about that. So I should start trying to think of other things to write about.

Or… My mind is still not fully working.. I have had a bad case of the flu for the last few days, so have had time to think and contemplate. or as much as you can with fuzzy mind.. :0)

Or more exactly I have spent the last 2 days doing nothing. Mostly while vegged out on the sofa drinking carling and just catching up on watching films, and other TV programs. Which has given me a chance to recharge my batteries..

Unfortunately I am currently sat drinking and watching “Dangerous Liaisons” which is one of the films I should be banned from watching as it tends to make me lean more towards the dark side, which is not helpful for my plan to be a nicer person..

Still undecided on who plays the part better, John Malkovich or Ryan Phillippe… Malkovich has the better style, but Phillippe had the advantage of being set in more modern times…

Well I better go, need another can.
