We here at the Ninja Temple love nothing more than finding new ways to use Technology, Or Ways to use it in a different manner to that which it was intended. We also like finding legal ways of doing things for free, that would normally cost money.

So what was the first thing we did when we got our hands on one of Amazons Kindles? We decided it would be nice if we could read our favorite Blogs & News sites directly off the Kindle in weekly digests. Unfortunately Amazon charges for this service, Which is OK I guess since some of the money can go to the Bloggers who write the sites.

No we do not want to cost fellow Bloggers Money, BUT if you think about it, you can use the Kindle’s web browser to read free Blogs for Free, so If you could get it sent directly to your device for free, its only really saving you time.

So heres the procedure we followed to get Weekly Digests of our Favorite blogs sent directly to the Kindle. (NOTE: If you really enjoy someones Blog consider supporting it with some comments, or some other way to show your thanks)

Greetings & Salutations.

You may have noticed that there is a new look to the Three Ninjas site. If you have not noticed then I have to ask are you blind or something?

R:What if they are blind and are using a text reader to speak your site?

CN:Well. I guess thats a valid reason, and I feel a bit like a douche now :(

R:Or what if they are reading it from your own RSS feed?

CN:OK. OK. I’m Sorry

Hi Constant Reader. We here at the Ninja Temple take all feed back seriously, No honestly we do! And as such we had received several reposts that the old theme was a bit dark and could be tricky to read. So we have had a bit of a change.

Please be patient as we switch over to this new look, since there are bound to be technical difficulties. So we apologise in advance for any problems.

Have a look about, and leave any feedback, thoughts, opinions, etc. in the comments section of this post.

Reflections on the Rapture

So the weekends over, and we have all survived. Well I assume we have all survived, there has been no news articles on the Zombie Apocalypse, no reports of missing people in their masses. So I can only assume that the End of Days (2011) aka The Rapture (V2) was a no show.

Now I should quickly explain what I am on about for those of you who may have been living in a cave for the last month and be unaware of the Rapture. Although you do raise a new question of why do you have the internet in your cave? anyway The Rapture….

Rapture

Basically some bloke called “Harold Camping” said he had calculated the secret code hidden in the bible, and was 100% the world would end on September 6, 1994.  Some point shortly after then, when the world was still going strong Harold admitted he made a slight mistake and had forgot to carry the one and the correct day of the rapture was May 21st 2011. On this day Jesus would return to earth, the chosen holy people who followed the laws of Christ would ascent to heaven, and the long forgotten dead would rise forth from their unhallowed graves and the end of days would be upon us.

My biggest problem with any of these beliefs is one of simple logistics. The holy get to go to heaven. Who is holy? If you follow the laws of Christ will you be allowed in? Which branch of Christianity do you need to follow since they are all different? What about the rules, once you could not eat fish on a Friday, but that rule was revoked, but did God approve the revoking? If you have to follow every rule there ever was to be 100% valid, then I do not see anyone being saved.

Anyway Rapture came and went without anyone noticing. So was it all a miscalculation again (Not everyone can do math) Or is it as some blogs are stating that the chosen were raptured, and the rest of us just have to wait the five months till the world ends? So all we can do is watch this space.

World Goth Day 2011

May22

Today is World Goth Day. And this year as an odd coincidence it comes the day after the end of the world, So since we all survived the end of the world, lets celebrate with some nice Gothic music.

So to all you black clad children of the night, I raise my Snake Bite & Black in your direction, and join in with a global Gothic two-step to some classic tunes….

Below is some of the FAQ from the official World Goth Day Website

WHAT IS WORLD GOTH DAY?

Goth Day is exactlywhat it says on the wrapper-a day where the goth scene gets to celebrate it’s own being, and an opportunity to make its presence known to the rest of the world.

WHY MAY 22ND?

Frankly, if there wasn’t an occasion on the 22nd of May, that day would just sit around on your calendar not earning its keep & generally freeloading off the other dates…

NOTE: It’s understood that May 22nd might not be a convenient date for everyone to celebrate Goth Day (let’s face it; Wednesdays are a ghost-ship for any event at the best of times), so it’s more of a guideline than a hard & fast rule. Most good events happen on a weekend, but we’ll cross that bridge as the years go by.

So far we have Mother’s Day, Fathers’ Day, Christmas, all manner of religious holidays, some of you may even have special annual celebrations for your pets. It’s only fair that Goths get to have a day of their own too…

BUT DON’T GOTHS MOSTLY TEND TO SHY AWAY FROM THE LIMELIGHT (OR FOR THAT MATTER, MOST FORMS OF LIGHT)?

Yes. But there are quite a few Goths who have fought damn hard to retain their identity despite peer pressure, family pressure and indeed, any pressure to conform. And if you’ve gone to all that trouble to preserve what you believe is the ‘real you’, don’t you think you owe it to yourself to shine for a day?

ISN’T HALLOWEEN A BETTER TIME TO HAVE GOTH DAY?

I suppose it is. As long as you want to share it with half the world who think it’ll be cool to wear black for a day just so they can look ‘spooky’, and completely miss the point after you’ve gone to all that effort to look that good all year round…

Happy 6th Birthday Three NInjas

May19

Well technically The Three Ninjas in its current format celebrated its second birthday on 12th January, but the Livejournal which started it all off, and who’s posts were exported onto here is six years old today.

Sit tight dear reader while I give you the brief history of how we came about, and why were are celebrating today!

19th May 2005:

A couple of us in the office created LiveJournal accounts so we could keep up with what our friends were doing, and so we could post random gibbering’s online during the slower parts of the day to try and keep us sane. My account was under the name penddraig, and the first ever post I made can be found here entitled “First Entry

Our posts covered mostly the insanity of work, random thoughts & meme’s, and what we had been up too. Including a few funny themed posts like the “ICE phone scam“. Our little community grew with some constant interactions and comments from the same group of people.

8th January 2009:

With the sell off of LiveJournal to a Russian businessman, and the reported rumours it was closing down  reported here in “Livejournal” (Plus the niggling voice telling me as an IT person I should have my own hosted blog) I decided to start my own self-hosted Blog using WordPress as the core system. I therefore set up wordpress, imported all my old LiveJournal posts into the new Blog and was up running.

12th January 2009:

Before I’d even finished setting up my blog, a friend from the old LiveJournal days expressed an interest in moving away as well. After a beer fuelled discussion, we decided to have a group or community blog. So After much discussion we settled on a domain name, and the Three Ninjas blog became a reality.

So without that original set of LJ posts, this blog would never have been here. So please take a minute to wish us (and GothNinja in particular) a Happy Blog Birthday.

Happy Birthday to us!

The Cake is not always a lie!

The ups & downs of the PSN

If you are a gamer then you are probably aware that the PlayStation Network went down on April 20th. After a few days it was revealed that the reason for the outage was due to Sony checking the system after they discovered the network had been compromised. The original belief was that PSN would be down for a few days while the vulnerability was patched. This caused two large outcries from the gaming community :-

PSN Users:NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! What will we do?

Xbox Live Users: HAHAHAHAHA

Now, I am one of the lucky ones who have both. Oh before you ask, no I did not scream NOHAOOHAOOHAOOHA!

A short while later when Sony discovered the full extent of the depth of penetration their system had encountered, They decided (Rightly in my opinion) to use this downtime to do a overhaul on the security of the PSN and related systems. Leading to a much longer downtime for gamers than was originally advertised.

As of the date of publish for this post, PSN has be partially brought back online for most people, Multiplayer gaming is possible, and Sony are doing their best to get all services back online for all players. They are also compensating users for the inconvenience. There will be a list of games that you can pick three from to download, there will be free months use of PSN+, and a lot of other gifts from Sony.

Now I think this is very good of them, they did not have to give away anything to compensate users for the unavailability of what is a free resource. Yes those who pay for PSN+ or other paid for systems deserved a month or two of their subscription back. But for everyone to get a gift, that’s something they did not have to do, and I think its very decent of them.

For those of you in Europe you can read more on what you will be offered here.

Bicycles should be Banned!

…..On roads during peak travel/commute hours.

Now I should point out that in principle I have no problem with people who want to enjoy the fresh air while getting or staying fit and healthy, or those who want to help the environment, or even those who have several mortgages and can no longer pay the exuberant petrol prices.

What I do have problems with are those people who ride push bikes, and tend to be in the middle of the lane making it harder to overtake them, especially if like me your morning commute is down country roads where its hard to overtake due to the number of blind bends. Now I would not mind if they would pull to the side to let you pass, or even stop and let the long tailback pass them. Instead they seem to delight in moving closer to the centre of the road making it even harder to pass, and laughing at all the cars such behind them, with their engines screaming at the indignity of travelling at 3 miles per hour.

I think like tractors, and industrial diggers there should be a core time when they are not allowed on public roads to prevent tailbacks, dangerous driving to try and makeup time, and road rage. I really believe they should be kept off the road during these hours for their own safety. You see, you may be smug sat slowly peddling your bike making me drive at a babies crawling speed, but I’m in a big car, and you know how much damage you and your bike will make to my car as I drive over you? NONE….

Now get off my road you bunch of weirdo hippies!!!!

Kids Need to Read Tweetathon

May09

Greetings and Salutations Dear Constant Reader, Can I call you CR for short? Why? Oh its because I am lazy that’s why. In university they group I hung out with would shorten everyone’s name to just three letters out of laziness (e.g.. mig,sal,pen,col,mem,ben,bob,etc..) As a more experienced Adult I have improved on this system and reduced everyone to just two letters.

But to more serious matters. KIDS NEED TO READ!. Reading is an amazing experience, it opens up new ideas, lets your mind travel to distant lands, or times, it allows you to experience all kinds of adventures in that most powerful of virtual realities “The Human Imagination“. Therefore it is the utmost importance that we all do whatever we can to help encourage and enable the newer generations to discover the wonders of a good book. And as part of doing our bit, we here at the Ninja Temple would like to bring your attention to the efforts of “Hyde and Geek” @hydeandgeek and his 36 Hour Tweetathon in aid of “Kids Need To Read” Which you have to admit is a very noble and worthy cause. He raised $2000 for them during the 2010 Tweetathon, so lets see if he can do better this year.

Now, I shall hand you over to Scott courtesy of his Blog over at hydeandgeek.blogspot.com Or you could just jump to the link giving this years details HERE. The text below is taken directly off Scott’s site.

The 2011 Kids Need to Read 36-Hour Tweetathon is officially going to take place from Thursday, May 19th at noon through Friday, May 20th at midnight.

For those who missed out on the fun in 2010, I’ll recap the basic idea. (More details can be found in the FAQ.) I will be sitting in front of my computer for 36 hours straight and tweeting at least once every 10 minutes for the duration of that time to encourage people to donate money to Kids Need to Read through a charity page that will be set up specifically for the Tweetathon. What will I do for 36 hours? That’s sort of random. Last year, I asked geek trivia questions, posted photos (some of them embarrassing) and made a general fool of myself. This year, well… we’ll just see how it goes, shall we?

Just be sure to follow me on Twitter so you don’t miss out on all the geeky fun!
