You have to wonder about some people, and their problem solving abilities..
I work for an ISP, and our current main support person is off work with stress, and has been for over a month. The director in charge of support has also decided he has had enough and is no longer doing support. So we are down two full time support people.
So what do the powers that be do? hire NEW support people?
…….NO
Outsource our support to another country/company?
…….NO!!
They decide to give the support roles to the people in my office, who are 1 system Admin, 2 Full time developers, and 1 part time developer. So as well as our normal stressful, rush work that fills up 8 hours a day in the office, we now have to cover an extra 16 hours a day work (which is apparently so STRESSFUL our current support guy is off Ill)
Now am I alone in thinking that if a job is so stressful it makes people Ill, that giving it to someone already in a stressful job is a bit silly?
Oh, and the best bit dear reader. Guess what bonus/extra we are getting for covering 2 peoples work..
A pay rise?
………No
More Holidays?
………No
Fuck All!!!
But I should not complain, as in December I was doing My job, Helping Covering Support Roles, Helping Out other departments, And covering the SysAdmins job fixing/repairing Servers.. I got given a extra cash xmas bonus of 50quid… Woooo Hooooo
Well the CV is under a re-write… Hopefully it will be done before that bit of floating straw lands on the camels back, and I do something silly…..
pointed out this morning that we really should have a medical note preventing us being put under too much stress due to hobbies of playing with dangerous weapons..
Anyway.. here ends my break so back to work and hopefully someone will invent the time machine allowing me to do that 12hours work a day in the normal 9-5 office hours.
…………………………And relax
Well since I failed miserably keeping last years resolutions, I have decided to follow the crowd and do the 101 tasks in 1001 days thing thats going around. I figured it may be easier to stick to, and be interesting to have a list of challenges to complete. Now I just need to come up with them, I’ve made a start, and
err taken inspiration from other peoples lists.
But still have a few to go, its not easy coming up with 101 items. (EDIT: Down to 31 to pick)
The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.
The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).
Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past – frequently simple goals such as new year’s resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.
| What type of person do you attract?
Your Result: You attract geeks!
Your stunning intellect and love of sci-fi and video games allures the geeks like nothing else. Maybe it is the sparkle in your eye that makes them want to text you, who knows. Geeks make good partners, but tend to be arguementative. If you are a TRUE geek magnet, you will know if that was spelled correctly, and actually care. If it is a bad-boy/bad-girl you are seeking, you are barking up the wrong tree, unless they are just ‘bad’ behind a PS2 console. |
